London: printed for R. Bentley; J. Tonson; H. Bonwick; W. Freeman; and S. Manship, 1695. Collation: 8vo: A–R⁸ (R8 blank), 136 leaves, pp. [16] 246 [10] including the final blank. Engraved frontispiece printed on A1v, advertisements on A8. Condition: 189 x 117mm. Brown stains on Q7–8. Binding: Contemporary sprinkled calf, rebacked, corners worn. Provenance: Signature ‘Fran: Peck’, perhaps the antiquary Francis Peck (1692–1743, see DNB). References: Wing C6599; ESTC R8430. Goldsmiths’–Kress 3059. Price: £500 First edition in English – and apparently the only one. ¶ This seems to be a fairly straight translation of the French text, but provided with an 8 page index which the Cologne editions do not have. The engraved frontispiece is a much better piece of work than the etching in the edition offered above.
