First edition in English of Praelectiones academicae in proprias institutiones rei medicae edidit et notas addidit Albertus Haller (Göttingen, 1739–44). Each volume exists in two or more states; these volumes conform with the description in ESTC, taken from the British Library copy.

The greatest teacher of the eighteenth century, Boerhaave saw nearly 2000 students through the medical faculty during his time at Leiden, 659 from English speaking countries. This is the most important collection of his lectures, edited by another great teacher, Albrecht von Haller. The medical faculties at the universities of Vienna, Göttingen and Edinburgh were begun or reformed following the system Boerhaave instituted at Leiden.

Literature: G. A. Lindeboom is the indefatigable biographer and bibliographer of the indefatigable teacher: for numerous references see his article in DSB in addition to his bibliography of Boerhaave.
